ready-improve2019 Clos Blanc de Vougeot, 1er Cru, Domaine de la Vougeraie

This enigmatic wine is unique in Burgundy, courtesy largely of the vineyard’s very chalky soil. It abuts the northern wall of Clos Vougeot, yet it’s definitively a white wine terroir. It’s always taut and tensile in youth, with marked acidity. The warm summer added a smoky nose and hints of cumin spice. It’ll need time to knit together. Drink 2024-2035.
