Better-known for its whites, St Aubin is also a source of fabulous Pinot Noir such as this, from the south-facing Premier Cru Derrière la Tour vineyard (overlooked by the eponymous tower). Crunchy red berry and blackcurrant aromas meld with spice and toasty notes on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied, juicy and generous, with ripe tannins – owing to the vineyard’s southerly aspect – counterbalanced by cooling acidity. Drink now with côte de bœuf or rack of lamb, or tuck it away for up to a decade to experience the full extent of its complexity. Drink now to 2030.
